Testing Quantum Chromodynamics*

The difficulties in isolating specific QCD mechanisms which control hadronic phenomena, and the complications in obtaining quantitative tests of QCD are discussed. A number of novel QCD effects are reviewed, including heavy quark and higher twist phenomena, initial and final state interactions, direct processesI multiparticle collisions, color filtering, and nuclear target effects. The importance of understanding hadron production at the amplitude level is stressed.
